Roberto Altamura

 

Roberto graduates at SPID (Italian Professional Dance School) in Milan, completing his training in contemporary dance at Merce Cunningham Dance Company (New York) and with the major companies and coreographers of the Italian and North Europe dance scene.

He dances for  “Leggere Strutture” company  (Bologna - Italy); he takes part in big productions as "Dracula opera rock", and "Tosca, amore disperato” produced by David Zard. He collaborates with the dancer and director Caroline Bo in Marseille. He is selected as dancer for Orfeo ed Euridice, directed by Graham Vick, choreography by Ron Howell and he performs in the
major italian theaters.

He has been selected by Mario Piazza to dance the role of Franz in the contemporary version of Coppelia; with the same company he dances in different productions, such as Carmina Burana, Les Noces and K2007. He works as dancer and choreographer for DES. company – Lugano in the production Final Fight.

In Milan, he dances in many productions at the “Nohma Theater” and he dances as well for the company “Corpi Mobili” in the production “Le donne, la guerra e l’amore”; with the same company he dances for the famous composer Ludovico Einaudi.

He takes part to Oriente Occidente Festival, where he received the critic's award for the best dancer by Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino during the 2009 edition.

With his choreography Cuori Imperfetti, he ranks among the top five European finalists in the competition / exhibition "Cercasi Coreografi", organized by WDA Europe in cooperation with IT / UNESCO. In the same year he presents the complete performance at the Teatro Studio Foce in Lugano (Ch) .

Since 2011, he dedicates to the training of young talents in contemporary dance, holding workshops and seminars in Italy, Switzerland, Austria.

He works as a choreographer for independent projects, companies and international events and collaborates with The Singapore University teaching contemporary dance.
From September 2011 he is the Artistic Director of Milan City Ballet School. In the same year, Virginia Spallarossa founds the cultural association “PANDANZ”, with Roberto as Vice President; together, they organize the contemporary dance festival "Pillole – somministrazioni di danza d’autore” in Milan.

He is guest teacher at the dance school of the Wiener Staatsoper for the 2013 and 2014 edition of Ballet Days Festival; in 2017, he is invited as guest teacher at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, and at Dongduk Womens University in Seoul.

During the same year, he is guest teacher for the project "Classes in Glass", organised by Balletto del Sud (Italy) and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.
 

He is choreographer for events such as the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and the Milan Fashion Week. In 2015 he is the founder and the artistic director of MilanoContemporaryBallet company. In collaboration with Company Wayne McGregor, the company re-stages work like FAR, ENTITY and POLAR SEQUENCES. He produces CONNECTIONS, Cenerentola, Fagile, CHRONOS and TREdiTRE,  this last one also represented in New York for IDACO, contemporary art festival.

 

In 2018 he collaborates with the director Joe Connor at the new video for the singer Sam Smith, and he is choreographer for RAI (Italian television).
